Frequently Asked Questions
Classes & Workshops
I want to take a class or workshop, where do I apply?
You don’t need to apply! Our classes and workshops are open to all, and are beginner friendly unless otherwise noted. Look for classes especially for teens and tweens; all other offerings are for adult learners.
What’s this sliding scale thing? How much should I pay?
We aim to keep our classes and workshops affordable (cheap!) so everyone, from all backgrounds, communities, and walks of life can participate. Please pay what you can. If you can afford to pay a little (or a lot) more, you can help us make fantastic SAW learning experiences accessible to students in need… and you’ll help our little upstart indie art school grow and thrive.
I can’t really draw—is that OK?
Yes! All of our classes are beginner-friendly, unless otherwise noted. Comics is about much much more than rendering realistic scenes and characters! We’ve seen newcomers make original, visually compelling comics stick figures, abstract forms, found materials, and collage. We’re here to help you tell your story, in whatever way you’d like.
Hmm, still thinking about it—what are the deadlines for signing up?
There are no hard deadlines for registration for evening classes--though space is limited! Our low-residency weeks and artists workshops may also fill up fast—early registration is advised. Keep an eye out for early-bird discounts and other special offers.
