Check out what we’ve all been up to the last few weeks in the SAW courses and Mighty Network groups!

TUESDAY COMICS INSPIRATION

Our main and FREE Mighty Network Group is where students from any and all courses (or none, if you’re just browsing through the main group) come to share their work, browse, get inspired, and give each other feedback. Last Tuesday, we shared some comics inspiring us, and asked students some of their current comic inspirations. Check out some comics students’ shared with this link!

Draw Jams!

Throughout the week we have free, community-run virtual Draw Jams via Zoom! You can find the links embedded in SAW's Mighty Network, with regular updates about times and themes.

Break! (for the Year-lONG STUDENTS)

Our online Year-Long Intensive Program just hit the mid-year mark!

Students just submitted their Final Assignment for session 2 and are on break! In the past two sessions, we’ve had a ton of fun learning about perspective; depth and details; modern comics; comics history; and gathering ideas. We also had some cool guest speakers like Leslie Stein and Brendan Burford (to name a couple) who talked comic creation and publishing! The break is well-deserved but we’re ready to dive into more comics in 2021!

Here are just a couple comic excerpts from our 2020-2021 Year-Long Program students!

The Future of SAW

If you haven’t already heard, the physical Sequential Artists Workshop is moving! SAW’S moving down the street in Gainesville, FL to a new, accessible-building shared with the historic Gainesville Fine Arts Associations (GFAA).

But… We need your help. That’s why we’ve launched our end-of-year fundraiser and for the month of December, we’ll be bringing you stories of what we do and how we do it.

here’s a word from Tom:

“This move lets us literally put a sign out on the street, lets us put a beacon out there and light it and say, '“This is the space for comics. This is the space to take your whole self and dedicate yourself to comics for a year or an afternoon or a week. This is the place that you can grow into that artistic self you want to be.”

Find out more at our Go Fund Me page.

Right now, and for the unforeseeable future, we’re still holding many of our courses online, but fret not, our online community is booming; very welcoming; and extremely diverse. Still, stay tuned to see when we will be offering in-person workshops again!
