TUESDAY COMICS INSPIRATION

Our first feature is our regular Tuesday comics inspiration. Pursued by Soldiers by Eleri Harris comes from the most recent kus comics collection, brought to you by the latest comics criticism iteration, SOLRAD. This newly birthed blog is more than just criticism, they’re bringing together new comics, extracts from anthologies, reviews and in depth features.

This next work is part comic, part helpful guide by Melanie Gillman for anyone looking to pitch comics for publication. Number one, follow directions.

FREE RESOURCES

Thanks Beth for sharing Figuary, a whole month of figure drawing by Love Life Drawing. Every day they share videos and activities online for you to practice your figure drawing and improve what you get on the page. For beginners to advanced artists alike, there’s something for everyone!

IN FLOW

Tom’s homework from the week follows the tradition of Little Nemo in Slumberland with a Gameboard panel. “The challenge here is to show the character moving across the panel, in multiple iterations, without ‘separating’ the moments into panels.” What does that look like for you?

“People say to write about what you know,” she told students in Oberlin. “I’m here to tell you, no one wants to read that, cos you don’t know anything. So write about something you don’t know. And don’t be scared, ever.”
— Toni Morrison, The Guardian

FROM THE MEMOIR GROUP

For anyone who is interested in memoir, you might enjoy this report that Toni Morrison turned down the possibility for a memoir about her life, worried it wasn’t interesting enough.
