Student and Graphic Novelist, Layne Glasgow, shares some perspective on their artistic process in one of SAW’s EXCLUSIVE online groups, the Six-Month Graphic Novel Development Intensive.

What they shared felt so enlightening, we wanted to share it with you!

Check out what Layne had to say below.

“I set out to write an outline this morning, and instead started coloring and adding lines to a drawing I started the other day that I wasn’t happy with it all (image below).

“I thought I was just procrastinating at first, but this drawing led to a number of exciting new ideas for me.

1. Leave gaps for spillover from one panel to the next to accommodate related ideas.

2. Use “pull tabs” for more info, or side notes/memories/references to books, poetry, other art. (image #2 above)

3. Use layers and transparency for the same reasons outlined above.

”4. Add this to the relevant page in a larger sketchbook, which is my current format for outlining since the other ways are too hard right now.

5. Continue because it works right now!”

-Layne Glasgow

A Note From SAW Founder, Tom Hart:

“This is the artistic process. Milling about, feels like procrastination, what you are really doing is discovering the work.”

- Tom Hart
