Tuesday Drop In -- Make Something Small and Finish

Here are some words from Tom Hart on MAKING COMICS:

“Make small things. Find friends to counter the “bad” voice.

Do "unimportant" things (like small things, fast things, like journal in the notebook things, single panels, just faces, etc.) - the critics tend to be quelled a little when they think what you are doing is unimportant.

Draw the critic. Have a dialogue with it. Talk to it. Pick it with pins. Visualizing the internal struggles we have usually helps (a little).

Seriously. You just gotta transfer your understanding and competence with finishing something you can typically finish to comics. Not your competence with the medium, just your competence with finishing.

I would strongly suggest you find the time this weekend or in the next 3-4  days to draw two single page comics. As fast as you can and still call it done. It just has to be readable to us to be able to call it done.

And the really lovely amazing thing is that when you start to do this, you will get better, yes, but more importantly, you can start to be artful.

You can start to recognize when you can insert that good technique, or that good idea you had.

Opportunities will emerge."
