Here's an excerpt from Tom Hart's Inner Critic course (which comes FREE with a Comics Flow membership):

The Pain of Who We Aren't

"Take a look at yourself in the mirror.

Do you look like you? Do you look like you want to? Hopefully you do, but most of us don't. Most of us feel STUCK with the person in the mirror.

With the person that makes things like we make them.

I want to be MORE THAN ANYTHING, the person who made this book. Tillie Walden, genius behind On a Sunbeam.

The person who made this is so full of life, and energy, she is so confident and draws effortlessly and beautifully. I want to be her so bad!

Luckily I know I can never be that person. The magic doesn't exist in our world to make it so.

But I also know that if you feel you want to be someone else, or somewhere else, THAT PAIN is exactly what you should be writing and drawing about...

In fact, I will go to the mat about this: any story worth a damn is about someone who is somewhere they don't want to be.

I'm going to say that again: Every good story is about someone who is not who they want to be, but who pushes on anyway.

Knowing that, what story will you tell?

Get into your subconscious zone, give yourself new data and ask your Suggesterfor some ideas.

Please add your story to the string of lights..." - Tom Hart
