MICE 2025 RECAP!
WOW! MICE 2025 was a total success.
With over 6 pages of email signups, a bunch of sales, and most importantly, FRIENDS, I’d say I had 100% the best time ever.
Before the madness… (I ran out of almost all of our promo material which always feels like a huge win!) We also totally sold out of our lettering zines by the amazing Jess Ruliffson !!
chelsea akpan and Cynta and I cheesing right before the festival went into full swing! Chelsea was a teaching fellow last year!!! I met Cynta at SPX 2024 and they taught an FNC :) Cynta makes incredible beautiful riso zines and Chelsea is working on a longer project called LOVE FOOL. Tif Bucknor caught me cheesing at the table lol. Honestly, they made the room a bit too warm, but it was 22 degrees out, so I get it? But I probably won’t wear a velvet dress to a comics festival ever again. Fun fact: this is also my favorite dress to wear on shabbos!
Syne Mitchell came up and introduced herself, it’s always amazing to meet folks in real life that I’ve both interacted with online or SAW has interacted with online, since I’m pretty new still! Such a pleasure to meet and share real life SAW resources :)
Allison Wong sporting the coolest manatee shirt I’ve ever seen, lol. Now Allison is attending the CCS program in Vermont, how incredible!!!! But seriously, look at those little manatees chilling in that tye dye water <3
Yao Xiao !!!!! I bought some stuff and boy am I glad I did, what a popular table she had! I also got to check out the book that she had published before she came to the current GNI. Yao, you are an inspiration!!! Thank you for giving me a discount lol!
Spotted a VERY special zine by a VERY special friend, Sarah Maloney !!! This was at the Crucial Comix table. Sarah is an incredible cartoonist, and is teaching a 4 week course on Queer Comix here at SAW in february!!! (I know I know, I need to launch it already… I’ll get to it!!)
Last but certainly not least, my host, my bestie, my love! Tif Bucknor and I met at SAW in the 2018-2019 yearlong program along with Emma Jensen! Us three became fast friends, and will be friends forever and ever. After each MICE day, Tif and her partner and I ordered food in, watched Love Island AUS and did a puzzle. It was the perfect calming thing to do after such hectic days slinging zines and making my voice hoarse with talking. So glad I got to spend this time with Tif!!
