Course Overview
Ever feel tapped out of topics to write and draw about? In this 4-part workshop, you will develop a fat notebook of your own material to use at the drop of a hat. Be ready to answer calls for entries, pitch online + print publications, complete a long-stagnant assignment, or contribute to an anthology after we take various avenues of inspiration together.
At each session, we'll develop first sentences, stories, settings, color schemes, and characters together, with the option to share.

What to Expect
4 Weeks of 2-Hour Live Sessions from 6PM -8 PM ET on Thursdays from October 8 - October 29, 2026
Calls will include live instruction, time to work on exercises, and feedback on work.
Class videos, audios, chats, and transcripts will be saved and archived for the duration of the course.
There is a small Mighty Networks component for this course. Sharing in the Mighty Networks, which is our host site for community interaction and sharing work, will be encouraged. However, most instructor feedback will be in the live classes.
About the Instructor
Katie Fricas
Katie Fricas is a cartoonist and editor. Her first book, Checked Out, was published by Drawn & Quarterly in 2025. She also makes short non fiction comics for various publications (and for fun!), zines, and is currently co-editing the anthology, Gay Genius, with Mannie Murphy for release in 2027 with Fantagraphics. She is the copy editor for Dopamine Books.
