Course Overview
In this course, we will explore different ways of creating autobiographical comics: works that harness and distill individual experiences (including observations, memory, and emotions) into stories that are deeply personal yet emotionally resonant for readers.
We will look at various comics in a wide range of genres, mediums, and styles to analyze storytelling techniques.

What to Expect
Weekly 2-Hour Live Sessions from 6PM -8 PM ET Starting October 13 - November 3, 2026
Throughout the course, we will work on a series of different exercises and projects in developing a distinct voice in your comics that will combine honesty, metaphors, and introspection. Work out your feelings on the page!
Calls will include live instruction, time to work on exercises, and feedback on work.
Class videos, audios, chats, and transcripts will be saved and archived for the duration of the course.
There is a small Mighty Networks component for this course. Sharing in the Mighty Networks, which is our host site for community interaction and sharing work, will be encouraged. However, most instructor feedback will be in the live classes.
About the Instructor
Rosena Fung
Rosena Fung is a cartoonist and illustrator based in Toronto, Canada. She is the creator of the graphic novel Living With Viola and Age 16, and a contributor to the middle grade anthology Today I Am.
Her illustration clients include Chickadee Magazine, The Bentway, The Globe and Mail, The Boston Globe, Chronicle Review of Higher Education, CBC Arts, PLANSPONSOR, Maisonneuve, Bust Magazine, Swerve Magazine, Tridel Corporation, and the Toronto Transit Commission. She has created work for magazines, newspapers, and public art murals.
