SAW Regent Book: Resist Complication by Sally Charette

Resist Complication pushes the boundaries of diary comics, expanding the genre beyond tracking our daily movements to capturing daily (and often momentary!) concerns, emotions, and reflections.  In this engaging collection, Sally Charette explores joy, grief, and the creative process demonstrating how comics that blur the line between fact and fancy express deeper truths about our lives.

6" x 9”, full color, saddle stitched. First Edition 2026. SAW Regent 2025-2026.

Sally Charette is a lifetime writer and doodler who leapt into the arms of the Sequential Artists Workshop for the Graphic Novel Intensive in 2021 and never looked back. Her comics have appeared in the SAW anthologies Iterations (2021), Troubled Histories (2024), and Field Notes (2026). She was awarded the position of SAW Regent for 2025-26, recognizing her strength and growth as a comics artist and her support of SAW’s community of artists.

In her former lives she was a legal script researcher for TV and movies; a PEN Emerging Voices Fellow; a published author of short stories, essays, poetry, and photography; and an unpublished author of a novel. An avid musician committed to creating art and community through music, she has served on the board of a music nonprofit for more than 2O years.  The northeastern Indiana farmlands she grew up in have always been a part of her and influenced her choice to live in a rural community in the foothills outside Los Angeles with her husband Dana, African Grey parrot Dodger, and budgies Archie and Buster.
