SAW Student Video 2014-2015

Hello from the Sequential Artists Workshop or SAW, a school for comics and graphic novels in sunny Gainesville Florida.

We're accepting applications for our 2014-2015 school year.

AT SAW, we've created an intensive, serious learning program that is 1/3 to 1/10th the price of average single years at other institutions.

SAW is about studying comics, making comics and becoming an artist.

SAW is exercises and training, work and critique, exposure and literacy, personalized instruction and mentorship.

SAW's instructors include Leela Corman and Tom Hart, award-winning cartoonists who are found consistently in Best American Comics and praised in other critical venues.

SAW's drawing teacher is the amazing Justine Mara Andersen whose rigor and focus on fundamentals and technique connects centuries of tradition to our students often more contemporary ambitions.

And SAW has a comics history class to rival any in the country with dozens of opportunities to interact with out of print work, original art and prints and pages sometimes hundreds of years old. From former student Adrian Pijoan: "SAW is a classic form of education. It's a room with professionals sharing their skills with students. It feels more like a holistic apprenticeship than a university classroom. " Our students in 2013-2014 made hundreds of pages of story and artwork, co-curated more than a dozen art shows, collaborated with dramatists and comedians to create original theater, printed and bound thousands of copies of books, attended festivals; worked for clients; and learned in close proximity from our staff of working artists. SAW is a school for differing personalities and artistic temperaments. We recognize and enliven your personal vision, yet always try to understand it in the larger context.

We strive to make you a better artist, writer, storyteller.

We are accepting applications for the 2014-2015 year. Make a commitment to your passion and your talent. Go to the website, download the application spend a year becoming an artist at the Sequential Artists Workshop.
